LECTURES
Week 9
22/10/2018
This week, we were given a lecture from our classmates which talked about the typographic perception and organisation. We learnt about form. content, gestalt psychology, the gestalt theory, and the laws of perceptual organisation.
INSTRUCTIONS
PROJECT
Week 9
When we were first given this project, we were told we c ouch use whatever medium we wanted and I wanted to do something with food. My first idea was to make typographic pancakes so I started looking up food typography.
FEEDBACK
Week 10: Mr.Vinod approved of my idea, but when I told him how I wanted to do it, he disagreed. He told me I should make a mould that other can use to recreate what I'm making.
Week 11: No feedback since it was e-learning week.
Week 12: I was told make the typeface more rounded and more child like and to start working on my moulds since time is running out.
Week 13: Mr.Vinod approved of my work, the moulds and the actual pancakes. He told me to make a stock motion video showing the process of the pancakes being made. He also told me to place my moulds on the actual frying pan when taking close up shots and to have them on a white background when I photographed all of them.
REFLECTION
Week 10: Not every typeface can be made into something practical. I also realised, it wasn't easy to sketch out the typeface and was much easier to do it digitally using my wacom tablet which made it a little bit easier to construct.
Week 11: In semester one, we were also asked to make our own typeface and it was difficult then but its difficult now also but also fun. The thing that stresses me out is how to make the moulds since I'm not that good at hands on stuff.
Week 12: My concern for this week and the last are the same since I still have to make my moulds but this time I also have to make the pancakes which I'm also worried about but this project is something I've enjoyed and I'm looking forward to the final outcome.
Week 13: Making the moulds was quite difficult since it took a lot of time to get the shape and the perfect curves and cutting the aluminium sheets proved to be a hassle and I managed to cut myself a fair few times. But, when I cooked the pancakes with the batter, the end result was quite nice and I'm happy with the way this turned out. One thing I also realised, my pancake cooking skill has improved and that maple syrup makes everything taste nicer.

Basics Design: Typography :-
The book talks about typeface style and how each style can be used differently or is meant to be used in a certain way.
The book starts by explaining how a typeface family contains a range of different character styles which can be applied to the same basic Roman typeface. An example of this is the italic or oblique, there is no right or wrong consideration in the selection but the judgement is determined by which style will look better for the septic design it is intended to be used on.
Another thing the boo states is that when it comes to typeface families. the Roman typeface is usually the easiest to read because it is easy for the human eye to recognise the ascenders ad descenders rather than reading the word.

This weeks, we were given a lecture about the different mediums in typography. We learn that typography is used in print and screen type as well as static and dynamic.

No class this week due to e-learning week.
Week 12

PROJECT
Week 9

1.1
1.2
1.3
I then started drawing out my own typeface and my first idea was to create a bubbly typeface.
1.4 My drawn typeface.
Week 10
29/10/2018
After talking to Mr.Vino, he liked my idea but one thing I had gotten wrong was that I thought we were creating a one time thing. He explained to me, that what we were required to do, was create a typeface that could be used by everyone to recreate what we were making. He approved of my idea but told me to make moulds for my typeface.
After taking his advice, I decided to create a different typeface, a much more angular one.
1.5 Sketch of new typeface
1.6 Just the words 'pancake typo' sketched out.
Week 11
05/11/2018
This week, I illustrated the letters out on illustrator because sketching them out was proving to be tricky. For starters, I looked at actual existing moulds to get an idea for my own typeface and found quit disappointing results.
1.7 First reference
1.8 Second reference
Before I started the actual illustrating, I tried finding a typefaceI could as reference and integrated it into my own typeface design. The typeface I chose for this was Future in extra bold.
1.7 Futura Typeface
1.8 Illustrating the letters in illustrator
1.9 Continuing with the illustration
1.10 All letters put together and resized.
Week 12
12/11/2018
Mr.Vinod advised me to make my letters more rounded since pancakes are suppose to be round and since my idea is mainly for children, the typeface needs to look more child like. So I worked on making my typeface more child like and less sharp looking, more rounded. I was also advised to start making my own mould using aluminium sheets.
1.11 Final typeface.
To make the actual moulds, I used aluminium foil sheet to make the moulds. I decided to make enough letters "P, A, N, C, A, K, E."
1.12 Moulds made from aluminium foil.
1.13 The letter 'P'
1.14 The letter 'A'
1.15 The letter 'N'
1.15 The letter 'C'
1.16 The letter 'K'
1.17 The letter 'E'
1.18 Frying the pancakes
1.19 All the letters fried and ready to be eaten.
I reattempted my photographs after getting my feedback.
1.10 The letter P
1.11 The letter A
1.12 The letter N
1,13 The letter C
1,14 The letter K
1.15 The letter E
