Week 1: The beginning:
30/04/18
For our class, we were introduced to our lecturers, Mr.Hafiz and Mr.Jeffery. Once the introductions and module outline was explained, we jumped straight into the world of photoshop. For our first exercise, Mr.Jeffery showed us how to edit a person into a different picture. This would be done using clipping masks and the masking tool which allows you to erase the elements in a picture you do not wish to have, in my understanding, it's a much more complex version of your everyday crop tool.

1.1 Photo given to us by Mr.Jeffery in which we had to mask a man.

1.2 Man who we had to mask into the picture shown above

1.3 Final, man masked into the image provided.

After completing our first exercise, we were then told to go outside and have someone take our picture and then edit ourselves into the picture of the mansion.

1.4 Myself masked into the picture of the mansion.

Week 2: Colour Adjustments
06/03/18
This week, Mr.Hafiz took us further on our photoshop journey and showed us how to edit different pictures using the colour adjustment such as how to change the brightness and contrast of pictures.

2.1 Warm tone picture

2.2 After playing with the contrast and turning it into a cool tone picture

We were then explained on how to shade using the dodge tool.

2.5 Old man without the shading

2.6 Old man with shading

After the shading explanation. Mr.Vinod walked into class and told us he would also be teaching us photography and thus began the explanation on understanding camera's better. There are three components to a camera: ISO, shutter speed and aperture.

Aperture controls the amount of light entering the lens, as the aperture increases, the point of focus becomes clearer.

Shutter Speed controls the level of exposure. The longer the shutter is open, the more light reaches the lens and vice versa. The shutter speed is the duration of time the shutter remains open to allow light to reach the sensor.

ISO controls the sensitivity of the sensor towards light and can also effect exposure. The higher the sensitivity, the lesser light is needed for exposure.

Week 3: The Blending Tool
13/04/18
The blending tool can we used to blend image together or blend an object with a background.

3.1 Night Background

3.2 House image

3.3 Ghost

3.4 Ghost

3.5 Ghost 3

3.6 Everything blended together to make my version of a haunted house.

After the demonstration and practice of the blending mode. Mr.Vinod came in and began to explain the different types of lightings used when pictures are taken. He explained the difference and correlation between the main light, fill light, rim light, hair light and strobe light.

The main light illuminates the most and major parts of an image, all the other lights reconstructed around this light.

Fill Light its function is to relieve the shadows created by the main light, thereby reducing the contrast.

Rim light gives form or structure around the object or subject being photographed. It creates a silhouette around the subject or object thereby revealing its shape.

Hair Light very literally illuminates and gives texture to the hair. Without this light, the hair texture wouldn't be visible or emphasised and would appear as a block of mess.

Strobe Light Photography consists of transmitters and receivers, a very simple and easy way to create a lightning system.

Then Mr.Jeffery came back and taught us more photoshop tricks. This time, he showed us how to change the colour pattern of a specific picture to our own liking

Week 4: Distortion
20/04/18
This week, we were shown how to distort an image using displacement maps. We were given a demonstration using flags and silk texture and then told to do one too.

4.1 Red fabric Texture

4.2 The Saudi Arabian flag

4.3 Exercise of displacing and distorting

Week 5: Distortion
27/04/18
This week was a continuation of last week. Firstly, Mr.Hafiz reexplained the process of displacement and how to create displacement maps. Once our memories had been refreshed, he showed us how to use displacement maps on faces.

5.1 Without displacement

5.2 With displacement

Week 6: Tiling
04/05/18
This week like last week, we displaced patterns or textures onto objects.

6.1 Pebbles

6.2 Zebra pattern

6.3 Pebbles with zebra pattern

Week 7
11/05/2018
No class this week.
