Project 1-Design Principle
Project 1 Self-Portrait

Lecture 8

This week, Mrs.Sherry told us we has to start our first project which would be a self portrait. She told us we could use any medium we wanted and showed us examples of different types of self portraits.

I wanted to use photography and photoshop for my self portrait and wanted to recolour myself, trying to give off a semi 3D painting look.

1.1 This is the picture I wanted to use for my self portrait

1.2 Final result. I initially wanted to wanted to work with pop art and turn myself into a comic book character but after playing around and researching, I wanted to see if I could somehow give the picture a more painted and textured style. 

1.3 After showing it to Ms.Sherry, she wanted me to make a very slight change to the hair, which may not be noticeable but the brown outline between the first and second is different.

This week, since we fished our first project, we were given our second project and briefed. Mrs.Sherry showed up examples and showed us that we had to create a poster about a place. It could  any place and shot at any time, we just had to make a composition.

This week, we were taken to Ilham Gallery to view an art exhibition. The place I decided to choose for my poster was the art gallery, itself. We were give half an hour to explore and take pictures of the compositions is we chose to.

Lecture 11

This week, we were explained what our final project was. Ms.Sherry told us we had to look for billboards and extract the design principles from those billboards and create a composition with those design principles.

No class since we had a week off for holiday.

This week, we showed our billboards to Ms.Sherry and explained our ideas to her. 

13.1 My first billboard inspiration was from this board. The design principles I extracted from this board were contrast and placement.

13.2 The second billboard I wanted to use also had the elements of contrast, placement and hierarchy.

I chose these two because the first is a billboard for the holiday Hair Raya which is celebrated by muslims after the month of ramadan ends. I wanted to use that billboard since the elements related to my own religious backgrounds. The second billboard is from Pakistan and `I wanted to use it since its different from the billboards we see here in Malaysia.

Lecture 14

28/06/2018

This week was final submission week.

14.1 Taking inspiration from the first billboard, I wanted to create something that went with the Raya holiday theme so I illustrated an arabian castle or it can also be perceived as a mosque.

14.2 I wanted to use a sunset background so I used this picture of the sky which I had taken previously. I wanted to incorporate a sunset since the fast during ramadan usually breaks during the time of the sunset.

14.3 This was my original work but after consulting Ms.Sherry, she told me that I didn't have to use both billboards to create a composition and that it would be better to stick with one instead of mashing the two up together. She told me it would better to stick with one theme and to not join two together. 

14.4 Final Submission. I wanted this art work to look warm and played with the saturation of the background and the different colour hues until I thought it represented the calm and relaxed feeling that comes with a holiday and I wanted it to be cheerful in a very subtle way to express the feeling of a celebration.
