PROJECT 2
Week 6
This week, we were given the brief for project 2 which was to create packaging for a traditional Malaysian toy. We were given a list we could choose from.
List of Traditional Malaysian Toy/Games
1. Congkak
2. Gasing
3. Capteh
4. Batu Seremban
5. Mahjong
6. Wau
7. Sepak Raga/ Sepak Takraw
8. Chinese Yo-yo
9. Chinese Chess
For my item, I chose chinese chess.
Week 7
Before I started doing anything, I brainstormed and knew I wanted to make a drawer box and before I did anything, I waited to get the actual product in my hands.
Week 8
Feedback
Week 11: For my feedback, Mr.Shamsul told me I need to add an instruction manual to the box so the people who purchase it can know how tot play the game.
Reflection
For my reflection, Project 2 was a bit easier than project 1 since after project 1, I had a better understanding in how to approach the overall box designing and that helped. The design was the hardest bit because Chinese chess has people thinking about China and not Malaysia. However, I had an advantage to my side and thats the fact that I'm a foreigner. I used my one year of living in Malaysia and the fact that I'm a foreigner and used that as my design process. The KL skyline accompanied by the Chinese elements was my way of promoting the Chinese ethnicity and culture in Malaysia. I also liked my concept of a drawer box since its easier to travel with and you can take it around and play it on the plane or the train. I just wanted to create packaging for a product that wad easy to take around and play with friends or family on trips.

Week 7
Before I started doing anything, I brainstormed and knew I wanted to make a drawer box and before I did anything, I waited to get the actual product in my hands.
Week 8
After I got the product, I sat and measured the chinese chess and started making my sketches. Since the chinese chess was a small traveller version, I wanted to make a drawer box that someone could carry around with them on holiday or vacation. I began by making the mock up for the inner tray for the drawer box because I used the actual box as reference.
Week 9
This week, for the outer box, I tore apart the original box and used it as reference before I started making the design for the overall packaging.
1.1 Taking apart the actual box and using it for the measurements
1.2 Dyeline for the outside packaging
1.3 Dyeline for the inside tray/drawer.
1.4 For the design, I wanted to use KL's skyline to advertise that the chinese chess was from KL and not from china. Along with that, I added certain chinese elements to help promote the chinese culture and ethnicity that exists in Malaysia as well. Once this was done, I started transferring the design to the dyeline.
1.5 I started by adding the background to the dyeline.
1.6 I then rearranged the the elements onto the dyeline.
1.7 BONUS this was the other design but my mother told me the one used above was nicer because it was brighter.
Week 10
This week was printing week so all I had to do was go to the printer and get my file printed and assemble it.
1.8 I messed up and forgot to take a picture of cutting the outer box but I managed to take one of the inter tray.
1.9 The inner and outer box assembled.
1.10 Placing the chinese chess inside the inner tray and it fit properly!
1.11 Placing the tray inside the box and that also fit. Thank god.
1.12 Everything packed together
1.11 The box open
1.12 Different perspective of the packaging and product.
