Final Project

For my final project, I wanted to do something with food and make food typography but we needed to create something or make an enhancement. I did't want to enhance something but wanted to make my own thing so I decided on pancakes. Less of pancakes, I wanted something that good be used with baked good. Cookie cutters already exist but nothing exists for much softer baked goods, and I have a very big sweet tooth and am quite immature so I want to combine those qualities. I wanted to create a childlike typeface that could be used to teach the alphabet to children in a way thats fun, and since breakfast is important, I decided to create Pancake Typography, an efficient way to teach children the alphabet in the morning.

REFLECTION

Experience: Last semester, typography was the hardest module, this year advanced typography was hard and easy at the same time? It was like a pandora box, somedays things went well and some days it didn't. Some projects had me ripping my hair out and some went smoother than imagined. But, I've become equipped with the skill of identifying good and bad type, layouts and where things work together and do not. For our first project, I had a lot of ideas but none of them worked even when I thought I did, and I was very frustrated but I've realised, metaphorical artwork does not work and sometimes the crazy, weird ideas have to be let go and something more simple must be  used.

Observation: This semester, I struggled with everything in the beginning mainly because of placement and because, I tend to look at references before working. This semester, I realised, it is time to ditch references and just go in there with a thought and idea that isn't influenced by someone else. For me, last semester, I used Pinterest a lot, this semester, I left it and referred to more books and more online blogs and tried to learn instead of using something as inspiration. For someone, who wants to pursue graphic design, I've learnt a lot but I still need to improve in more ways to make much better designs.

Finding: This semester, I've learnt many many things such as layouts and the word typo-sexual and how to combine text and images together. I've learnt how ti find the right image, and what images works and which images do not work. Fo the final project, I learnt a very run down version of sculpture? Aluminium sculpture, and I cut my fingers and burnt them a lot because of my own recklessness but I can do many more things with aluminium sculpture. I found that you can diy everything and just how important type is. For the final project, I felt very disappointed when I saw the what actual moulds look like so I got very into making my own font for moulds and got to put my cooking skill to the test but my photography skills need a lot of improvement.
